Zhangjiajie, located in the northwest of Hunan Province in China, is a world-renowned tourist destination known for its stunning natural beauty and unique landforms. It has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is also home to the world's longest and highest glass bridge. With its abundant natural resources and diverse ecosystem, Zhangjiajie offers something for everyone, whether you're a nature lover, an adventure seeker, or just looking for a relaxing getaway.
I recently had the opportunity to join a 5-day tour of Zhangjiajie with a group, and I was absolutely amazed by the beauty and wonder of this incredible place. Here's a detailed account of my experience, including some of the must-see attractions in Zhangjiajie.
Day 1: Arrival in Zhangjiajie and visit to袁家界
After a long flight from my hometown, I finally arrived in Zhangjiajie and checked into my hotel. I was excited to start exploring the city, but my tour guide informed me that we would be spending the first day visiting 袁家界 (Yuanjiajie), which is located about 40 kilometers away from the city.
袁家界 is known for its unique sandstone pillars and cliffs, which are said to have inspired the floating mountains in the movie Avatar. The scenery was indeed breathtaking, and it was easy to see why it had been chosen as a filming location for numerous Chinese and Hollywood movies. Some of the must-see attractions in 袁家界 include the following:
1. 天生桥 (Tianxingqiao): This natural bridge is formed by a sandstone arch and is an impressive sight to behold.
2. 袁家界玻璃桥 (Yuanjiajie Glass Bridge): This pedestrian bridge is the longest and highest glass bridge in the world, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape.
3. 乾坤柱 (Qiankun Pillar): This massive sandstone column is one of the most famous landmarks in 袁家界 and is said to be the inspiration for the floating mountains in Avatar.
Day 2: visit to杨家界 and天子山
On the second day of our tour, we visited 杨家界 (Yangjiajie) and 天子山 (Tianzishan). 杨家界 is known for its beautiful waterfalls, pristine lakes, and diverse flora and fauna. We had the opportunity to explore the scenic areas by foot and take in the breathtaking views. Some of the must-see attractions in 杨家界 include the following:
1. 仙女散花 (Xiannv Sancai): This scenic area is named after a legend in which a仙女 (xiannv, or fairy) descends from the heavens and sprinkles flowers over the mountains, creating a beautiful tapestry of colors.
2. 五龙电梯 (Wulong Elevator): This glass-fronted elevator offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape as it takes passengers up to the top of a mountain.
3. 袁家界索道 (Yuanjiajie Cable Car): This cable car ride offers a unique perspective of the stunning scenery of 杨家界.
After exploring 杨家界, we moved on to 天子山, which is known for its towering peaks, jagged cliffs, and stunning sunsets. Some of the must-see attractions in 天子山 include the following:
1. 西海石林 (Xihai Stone Forest): This scenic area is home to a large number of stone pillars and cliffs, making it a perfect spot for photography enthusiasts.
2. 天子阁 (Tianzige Pavilion): This pavilion offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape and is a great spot to watch the sunset.
Day 3: visit to黄龙洞 and宝峰湖
On the third day of our tour, we visited 黄龙洞 (Huanglong Cave) and 宝峰湖 (Baofeng Lake). 黄龙洞 is one of China's largest and most beautiful limestone caves, with a length of over 10 kilometers and over 100 different chambers. Exploring the cave was an unforgettable experience, and it was fascinating to see the various formations of stalactites and stalagmites.
宝峰湖, on the other hand, is a pristine lake surrounded by lush mountains and offers some of the most serene and picturesque scenery in Zhangjiajie. We had the opportunity to take a boat ride on the
